A productivity scan
to easily determine your priorities

An OECD study from 2021 indicates that the gap between high-productivity firms and those with "ordinary" productivity is widening slightly every year. This study challenges companies: are you more likely to want to be among belong to the top group or rather to the average?

How does this topic impact your productivity?

Why it is so important to identify your opportunities for productivity growth?

An OECD study from 2021 indicates that the gap between highly productive companies and those with "ordinary" productivity is widening a little each year. This study challenges companies: are you more likely to want to be among the top group in terms of labour productivity or more likely to be average?

Another reason why companies will have to invest more and more in their productivity is simply the tightness in the labour market: it will not go away. Everyone shouts that investing in technology (automation, augmentation) must be part of the solution.

Studies show that technology can be the fuel of productivity growth, but not the engine: investment in technology is a must, but only the companies where the 6 productivity levers are managed correctly are able to translate those investments into higher productivity.

Based on the OECD study and multiple scientific studies (see annex), Sphere-Work has built a productivity self-scan that enables any company to

  • identify the 6 levers that make the difference between highly productive companies and the 'average',
  • determine the priorities for maintaining or further improving labour productivity in an easy and well-founded manner.

That’s how we make the choice easy: do you want to be at the top in terms of labour productivity? Do you want to do more with the same number of people? Then what should you focus on then?

Our online productivity scan

What exactly is our solution and how do we proceed?

We work on the 6 levers that a whole range of studies and the OECD indicate as the levers where high-productivity companies make the difference:

  • Focus and (performance) management practices: how are goals & KPIs set up in a company, how are they translated to different levels of the organisation, what is the process by which the goals and KPIs are monitored and how are people prompted in line with these goals?
  • How do people and teams feel supported: empowerment, how can people influence certain decisions, do they feel supported by their management, how does teamwork work?
  • Skills: how good are you at attracting the right profiles, developing the skills you need to execute your strategy, retaining the people with the right potential? Do you have a good mix of profiles at senior management level?
  • Future orientation: how deeply is continuous improvement embedded in your organisation? How structurally engaged are you in innovation? How central is the customer to you?
  • Change-oriented organisation: effectiveness of bottom-up and top-down communication, cross-team/department collaboration, decision-making processes and resource allocation.
  • Perception about the (individual and collective) leadership: perceptions about the leadership competences, reliability, fairness ...

We conduct this online scan among a company's senior management.

Based on the results (also in relation to scientific studies) on the one hand and a correlation analysis with perceived productivity on the other, we expose the priority levers for (even) better productivity in a limited number of workshops and develop concrete proposals.
